Fun Food For Hallowen

By Arthur Orchid

Which meals do you usually eat and prepare for Halloween? Let's see a few suggestions to bring some fun food at your Halloween party.

When you host a Halloween party for children or adults, one of the most important things you can have is food that reflects the holiday. You may have already been to a party that had exceptionally creepy food items, and you may even have been afraid to eat them. With children, this is usually not an issue. The strangest foods are the ones that they're going to go for - though that's a direct contradiction to what you would experience each evening at the dinner table. No matter what age you're serving, having the right Halloween food items is essential to a successful party. I'm sure you don't want to ruin that Halloween party you worked so hard for...

For children, the Halloween food that you come up with should be in line with their age group. This isn't a huge concern though, as many like to see icky foods. You can take a package of grapes and peel off the skin. This makes an excellent bowl of eyeballs that children are going to love. Don't forget to crunch up some brown foods and add some worms. This type of Halloween food dessert is actually pretty common today, but most will still get a kick out of it anyway. There are also tons of candies representing bodies part. Put them in the right order like after an autopsy this should be really impressive.

You can also go with things that are a bit more grotesque that will please adults and children as well. You can find some interesting ideas online, but one of the best ones that I've seen so far is the litter box Halloween food idea. This is a very close replica to what a real cat box would look like, including the litter and the, well, you know. You'd go out and buy a brand new little box (no used ones please!) and then fill it with the recommended items. This Halloween food is gross, yummy, and immensely pleasing - just keep your cats away from it. You can even add a toy representing a cat to add more credibility if you wish!

You can also make a brain out of a Jell-O mold, and perhaps you can find a way to cook something that looks like any other type of body part. You don't need to go with gory Halloween food ideas though, as you can use items from the season to come up with something fun. Think about putting foods in pumpkins, or perhaps you can find some interesting ways to search normal foods with Halloween themes. You can find all types of great ways to serve Halloween food if you look around for inspiration, or just go with your own imagination. Also think about finding additional ideas online to serve fun halloween food.

Halloween Historical Origins

Do you know Halloween Historical Origins?
How did Halloween start? The history behind Halloween spans almost 3,000 years!

Here are some tidbits and lore on the interesting origins of Halloween which aren't widely known. This can help you start a conversation with a Halloween party guest you've been dying to meet. Otherwise this will only be for your own culture. If you're hosting a party, you can make a booklet on your PC to hand out as party favors. Illustrated with Halloween icons, Gothic fonts or scary photos adds to its value as an unusual memento and trivia collectible.

Halloween historical origins

The history behind Halloween is long and there are some remarkable associations which, over millenniums of practice, survive in some form today.

The Celts were the first Halloween celebrants, around 2900 B.C., although the name of the original celebration was Samhain. The occasion of Samhain was to mark the end of their year, October 31, probably relating to the end of harvest. However, the Celts also believed that the dead had their day each year on Samhain, allowed to roam the earth, sometimes disguised as animals. This put a little spookiness into the harvest season. The Celts were pagans at this time.

One of the customs on Samhain was to collect and exchange food to appease the gods and keep evil spirits at bay. To this end, they dressed in costumes, wearing and brandishing scary masks, designed to frighten off these evil spirits, in much the same way gargoyles were later used on churches. Bonfires were also customary, as an added measure to ensure the evil spirits did not gain a foothold in their community. So costumes, masks, pumpkins and treats were an integral part of the history behind Halloween from the beginning.

Christians converted the pagan Samhain celebration into a Christian celebration of Halloween, followed on November 1 by All Saint's Day. This cleverly served to divert the offerings to pagan gods and point celebrants in a Christian direction. This strategy did, eventually succeed.

Over a period of hundreds of years, Halloween gradually picked up superstitious myths and stories, still hanging on to some of the pagan rituals and ideas. Thus, today's ghost stories around the campfire became part of the history behind Halloween traditions.

While Halloween began as a celebration and ritual holiday for adults, in the early part of the 20th century, the adults started behaving badly, with malicious acts overshadowing the treat aspect. The malicious tricks became so severe, the history behind Halloween might have ended there. People banded together to preserve this fun holiday tradition for kids only. For about 50 years thereafter, adults didn't go trick or treating.

Around the 1980s, adults celebrating Halloween came back in vogue. Although most adults still don't go trick or treating, due to the typically chilly reception they receive, they do attend adult Halloween parties where the host provides the treats and everyone gets into costumes, just as the ancient Celts did. Say, how about a Celtic Halloween party? That party would turn up some interesting costumes! Now you can tell all your friends Halloween historical origins.

Transform Your Home into an Halloween Haunted House

Halloween is not only for kids' entertainment... You also can have great fun if you do the Halloween celebration like a game or a challenge between friends, neighbors or relatives.
Challenge those trick or treaters by transforming your home into a Halloween haunted house!

Almost everyone enjoys some aspect of Halloween. Some adults don't get into costume parties and the general revelry. However, such individuals may still be kids at heart and prefer providing a truly scary environment for trick or treaters. Almost every neighborhood has someone whose Halloween pleasure comes in the form of creating a Halloween haunted house that scares the wits out of the successful trick or treater.

When my daughter was little, one neighborhood couple went all out every year to do just that. Their house even creeped me out. My brave little girl made it as far as the door. When the door opened, there was a Frankenstein like old man, very tall, dressed in tatters, covered in spiderwebs and holding a big basket of treats. He slowly and stiffly made his way towards her, proffering his basket. That was it for her. The candy wasn't worth it, but she did get her entertainment's worth! This was a genuine Halloween haunted house. I always wondered if his basket was still full at the end of the evening.

If this Halloween tradition appeals to you, here are a few tips on transforming your home into a Halloween haunted house. Spiderwebs are essential and can be purchased in bulk amounts at party stores and craft shops. There's something creepy about spiderwebs, especially when they're placed on shrubs or posts in a narrow walkway leading to the front door. This way, children may end up with spiderwebs clutching at your clothing as the hapless kids pass by.

Several Jack O'Lanterns provide just enough light for kids to safely navigate the path and help to set the mood. Strings of red or blue Christmas lights provide more dim, creepy lighting. You can set the lights to alternate on and off, with longer periods of off than on. The best Halloween haunted houses feature plenty of Jack O'Lanterns, carved in a variety of scary faces. You can line them up on the porch, just for fright's sake. It's also a good idea to turn all of the house lights off and place a pumpkin in the windows facing the street. Is anyone home? Of course, you tempt the trick or treaters with a couple of blue floodlights over the front door.

Spiderwebs should be plastered all over the entry way. Some are sure to find their way onto the kids, producing shrieks from the bravest. A scary sound tape is another must, filled with ghost-like sounds, the hoot of an owl and gusts of wind coming out of nowhere. Sound and movement activated props will give all the kids the creeps. What do you think the kids will do, when they're whispering and giggling and the empty rocking chair starts rocking? How about a cardboard skeleton dropping down as they step on the porch?

At this point, you open the door and sweetly offer your goodies. These kids have earned them!
This now your turn to have fun and demonstrate your unlimited imagination.
